REVERSE OSMOSIS DRINKING WATER SYSTEMS

Why Should I Use Reverse Osmosis Water?

Reverse Osmosis is the most commonly used water filtration system in the Waterloo Region. It removes harmful chemicals and provides you with ample water for drinking and cooking.

Does it remove the beneficial minerals from the water?

Actually, your water softener removes the calcium and magnesium from the water. When a reverse osmosis unit is correctly installed, it runs off a softened line. The system will remove all the sodium that is exchanged from the water softener and leave you with pure, chemical and mineral-free water. Some people prefer to replace the minerals with a special PH Boost filter that reintroduces calcium into the water. This is optional but available for less than $25.

Should I connect the Reverse Osmosis water to my fridge?

Absolutely! In fact, it's the only truly ideal option. If you connect to hard water, it will eventually ruin your fridge with calcium build-up, and your ice will be cloudy and the water full of chlorine. If you connect to softened water, it will protect the fridge, but you shouldn't drink softened water because of the sodium.

Will I still have to replace my fridge filters every year?

You won't have to buy replacement fridge filters, ever again. Note that some fridges will require that the filter remain in place to operate. Our installers will advise you on your fridge hookup.

Do Reverse Osmosis Units waste a lot of water?

The old ones did. But technology has changed and our new Pentair High-Efficiency membranes use only 1 gallon of water to produce 1 gallon of water. Older systems used 4 gallons to produce 1.  It still sends some wastewater down the drain, but remember, you probably only use a gallon or two a day.
